Taking first steps…
First, I need to thank everyone that reached out to support this new adventure!! It means a lot to hear from different people that have been with me at different parts of this journey with me.
This weekend was quite a journey for me in a lot of ways, it was my first time playing 18 holes of golf since finger surgery, I starting scribbling new beat ideas in Ableton for the first time (should I start a Youtube channel?), put out my first scribbling of beats from my iPad garage band fun, and continued to clean up thoughts and ideas on where I want to continue to build my journey (hopefully more to come here in the future!)
First, on the golf, man was it a roller coaster. If folks don’t know me, I am a big golf addict. I do nerd out a little bit on it but have been disappointed the last 5-6 years because I have not been able to play too much do to various reasons (living in NYC, too many commitments on the weekend, travel for work, etc.) and this season having surgery on my dislocated pinky did not help. Going through the roller coaster of emotions during the round, I am very happy with the outcome. I shot a 79 (inline with expectations when not super rusty) and as all competitive people will say “left a few out there”. This was extremely encouraging for me as I hope to get myself back into a place that I can compete more competitively (maybe if I get good enough, try my shot at US Open qualifying???). Was a very pleasing experience for me to get some confidence back in an area that I have been lacking the last few years. A lot of my friends talk about how they are getting much better, playing almost every weekend, and here I am barely able to get out 5 times in a year. I am hoping I can use this to set a tone of a positive second half of summer getting myself back into golf shape.
Learning and trying to shape music has always been interesting for me, I use to hate taking piano lessons but then when I progressed into the guitar and trumpet, I had a love for it again. From here, I found myself not loving the normal band genres that would take shape (got sucked into the hip hop and EDM world very quickly). From then on when I tried different instruments (saxaphone, french horn, trombone), I had a falling out with music cause I just couldn’t figure out how really connect with the music. The last 2 years or so, I have rejoined my festival era and started to put a lot more into my love for music (yes edm lol) and wanting to see how I can connect with it and make something on my own. I took my iPad and chicken scratched a song on garage band that sounded way better on my iPad than it does on Sound Cloud. I already know why it sounds kinda shitty, it has the layers all leveled the same and makes the noise way too complicated. BUT I have learned and am making a beat on my computer through Ableton and it is coming out a lot better I think (will know soon). If folks are interested, am thinking about making Youtube videos as someone who literally knows nothing about making music, trying to learn and making shitty songs until he makes his first banger. Let me know! Also, I have to shout out my friends Kellie and Brooke who came up with my DJ name, Techno Tree lol.
Anyways, stay tuned as this adventure continues. And if you want me to make Youtube comment let me knoe!
